Downtown Portland is getting a new kind of entertainment in the form of a virtual reality center. Uncharted Realities will be opening its doors on Nov. 9, ready to transport would-be voyagers into exciting immersive experiences by making use of high end Virtual Reality technology.
With the virtual reality market projected to grow significantly over the next few years, it’s no surprise to see these types of businesses popping up. “We have been keeping an eye on the tech for the last few years, and some of the applications they have developed for it are absolutely mind-blowing,” says Michael Pagnotta, one of the owners of Uncharted Realities. “We can’t wait to share some of that amazement with the community.”
Since its resurgence a few years ago, virtual reality has faced a few barriers to mainstream adoption including cost of equipment and availability of space to play. Uncharted Realities hopes to remove those concerns from the equation. “We want to foster an environment where people can get together with their friends and experience something wonderful, without breaking the bank,” says Jason Benninger,co-owner. “Most people can’t afford to drop a few grand on a VR setup, but here they can drop a few bucks and have the time of their lives. Plus we have enough space that they can play together with their friends, which makes the experience that much better.”
As a way to celebrate their Grand Opening, Uncharted Realities will be hosting a Beat Saber Tournament and free demonstrations of what they have to offer, with the top contender winning a $50 gift certificate. “If you’ve ever wanted to play Guitar Hero with Lightsabers, You will have a blast with this!” says Jason, "It is easily one of the most exhilirating experiences we offer." If online reactions to the game are any indication, he may be right, as the game is currently ranked as the 7th best rated Steam game of all time.
