Paddle Palace Club will be open 7 days a week, 12 hours a day, beginning Saturday, Oct. 1. The spacious 7000 sf facility features professional ITTF approved sports flooring, 24-foot ceiling, new ITTF regulation LED lighting, 8 to 12 ITTF-approved tables, a catering kitchen, and a beautiful viewing balcony.
Paddle Palace Club offers table tennis classes, leagues, coaching, visiting pros, drop-in play, tournaments, and fun table tennis events. PPC is dedicated to offering a welcoming environment for recreational players and new players to the sport, as well as providing a full-time training facility for high-ranked players. Developing a juniors program is a high priority, and PPC will welcome seniors, women, and players of all ages.
Visiting Pro Coach Xia Jiwei and Coach Sean O’Neill of Portland will conduct a 2-hour clinic on Sunday, Oct. 2nd at PPC from 6 to 8pm. Registration is now open. This clinic is recommended for experienced players.
Coach O’Neill will also participate in events at the Grand Opening. Sean, a USA Table Tennis Hall of Famer, was 5-time US Men’s Champion, a two-time Olympian, and U.S. Paralympic Team Coach. Coach O’Neill will teach PPC Members-Only classes beginning the first week of October.
Paddle Palace Club is offering an “Introduction to Table Tennis” Class for novices on Wednesday, Oct. 5th at 7pm, taught by Cory Johnson and PPC staff. This class is free for members, or $12 for non-members.
Paddle Palace Club is owned and sponsored by Paddle Palace Table Tennis, the #1 table tennis equipment supplier in North America, and North American distributor for the major brands of the sport. Paddle Palace Table Tennis originated as a full-time table tennis club in downtown Portland in the 1970’s before becoming an equipment company. The original Paddle Palace Table Tennis Club was located on SW 11th and Alder in what is now the Sentinel Hotel.
The owners of Paddle Palace Table Tennis and Paddle Palace Club are Judy Hoarfrost, (formerly Judy Bochenski), and her brother Michael Bochenski. Judy was a member of the U.S. National Team for a decade and represented USA in numerous World Championships and international competitions. She was a member of the “Ping Pong Diplomacy” Team that made history in 1971 when they toured China and met Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai. She was many-times U.S. Junior Champion, 2-time U.S Senior Champion, a 3-medal winner of the 1979 Pan Am Games, and 2-time Oregon Champion for both Men & Women. Judy has spent a lifetime promoting the sport of table tennis, and has conducted hundreds of table tennis exhibitions and clinics. Judy was inducted into the USA Table Tennis Hall of fame, as well as the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame.
