The weeping elm will serve as Hillsboro’s 2019 wishing tree October 1st -31st, in support of Hillsboro Arts Month and Hillsboro Art Walk. The Hillsboro Downtown Together Committee’s mission is to build community and ignite public & business engagement. The Wishing Tree Initiative was created to further provide meaningful participation in community activities that build engagement across the City’s diverse communities (Hillsboro Comprehensive Plan Policy P1 2.1).
The opening wishes will be held under the sheltering branches of the Wishing Tree, rain or shine. Join the Initiative launch in opening words with Carmen Brodniak of Lincoln Street Elementary, Claudia Ruf of Glencoe High School and Joan Callaway of HACC. Together, colorful wishing chains made by Lincoln Street and Glencoe students will be hung among sparkling lights and custom cards, crafted by the Hillsboro Youth Advisory Council (YAC).
Downtown is Hillsboro’s living room! Experience fun interactive events that will be held throughout the month of October, in support of the Wishing Tree Initiative, local arts & event partners. Eco-friendly tags will be provided October 1st-31st under the Wishing Tree and at participating businesses. Visitors are encouraged to write a wish and tie their tag onto a string of community wishes.
