Tips for Successful Hearing Aid Usage
We cannot stress enough the importance of wearing your hearing aids around the house. This is often where you find yourself communicating with the most important people in your life. Even if you live alone, this is the best place to Practice.
Practice listening to the TV with your different hearing aid programs, or with your wireless listening devices. Practice identifying the environmental sounds of your house that you may not have heard for many years...clocks ticking, fans blowing, floor boards creaking, etc. Your ultimate success with your new hearing aids depends on how often you wear them, so please wear them at home!
Speaker Tip: Around the house is one of the most challenging listening environments for people with hearing loss. Both speakers and listeners tend to "let down their guard" and put less effort into communicating effectively when they are in the comfort of their own home. The speakers need to remember that the listeners MUST see their face to guarantee a successful communication exchange. Get close to your listener, look them in the eye, and speak clearly.
